Stefanie Gaumert is Technical Advisor for MHPSS and Peace at the Berghof Foundation, ensuring coherence across research, programming/mainstreaming, and policy influence at the critical intersection of MHPSS and peacebuilding/peacemaking. Prior to joining us in October 2025, Stefanie worked as an advisor and consultant with GIZ, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and in the Governance Department of GFA Consulting Group. Her tenure as Team Leader at a refugee reception center with more than 2500 residents anchors her systems-level work in frontline realities.
Over more than a decade, she has worked with survivors of violence, refugees, and institutional partners in Colombia, Moldova, Bolivia, Germany, El Salvador and Papua New Guinea, integrating trauma-sensitive, participatory, and resilience-based methodologies into capacity development, staff-care, conflict transformation and dialogue facilitation. She has strategically mainstreamed MHPSS into peacebuilding programmes—most notably ProPaz and PazComunal with GIZ Colombia—ensuring alignment with local needs and institutional frameworks
She holds a master’s Degree in Peace and Security Studies from the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg and a master’s degree (equivalent) in Psychology from the University of Münster.
