Dr. Christina Horváth-Stenner is a senior mediation expert with over 15 years of experience in peace process design, political dialogue facilitation, and strategic mediation support. Her work spans multiple conflict contexts and negotiation tracks, with a particular focus on Track 1 processes such as the Transdniestrian Settlement Process, the Geneva International Discussions, and the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine. She has also facilitated Track 1.5 and 2 initiatives, notably in Egypt during the Arab Spring, and in Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo, where she supported community-level and inter-ethnic dialogue processes.
Before joining the Berghof Foundation, Christina was part of the OSCE’s Mediation Support Team, contributing its transformation into a strategic advisory unit and managing a diverse project portfolio across Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. She previously worked with the CSSP – Berlin Center for Integrative Mediation and held positions with the UNHCR and OSCE field missions in the Western Balkans.
Academically, Christina holds a PhD in Political Science, a Master’s in Economics, and a Master of Advanced Studies in Mediation in Peace Processes from ETH Zurich. She is a certified mediator, and her language skills include German (native), English (fluent), French (B1), and Japanese (JLPT N3).
Christina is a co-founder of the Women Peace Mediator Network Germany (wpm-germany.de) and a member of international expert rosters for both the United Nations and the OSCE. At Berghof, she leads the Europe Unit in advancing inclusive peace initiatives and building partnerships that strengthen the foundation’s engagement in mediation and dialogue.
