The project accompanies and builds the capacity of a group of nine faith-based mediators through exchanges and peer-to-peer learning. -

This project focuses on sensitising vulnerable communities to the adverse impact of climate change on peace and security in Beledweyne District. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2023 Community resilience to violent extremism
The comparative research project examines root causes and driving factors of violent extremism in local communities across seven countries in the MENA and Balkans. -
Past Project: 2017 - 2019 Conflict resolution with Salafi-jihadi groups
The research project examined (de-)escalation trajectories of Salafi-jihadi armed groups and explored options and challenges for conflict resolution. -
Past Project: 2017 - 2019 Culture of conflict 3.0
Using innovative methods, the project strengthens the media and information competence of young people and supports the development of skills, which enable them to critically consume media. -
Past Project: 2022 - 2023 From female combatants to filmmakers
This project uses documentary filmmaking with female ex-combatants in Colombia and Uganda to show the various ways in which women participate in conflicts as well as their post-conflict experiences. -
Past Project: 2018 - 2020 From female combatants to post-war democratic leaders
Using filmmaking as an accessible and evocative research method, female ex-combatants document how they experience reintegration, post-war development and leadership. -
Past Project: 2019 - 2020 Incremental inclusivity in peace process design
This project analyses the incremental inclusion of non-state armed groups and societal actors during different stages of a peace process. -
Past Project: 2019 - 2022 Insider Mediation for Conflict Transformation in Zimbabwe
This project aims to contribute to national efforts for peace and stability in Zimbabwe through the strengthening of local and national capacities for conflict transformation. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2021 Intergenerational dialogues on fighting for justice and peace
Through participatory research and training, this project fosters intergenerational dialogue between youth and former combatants on peacebuilding and justice in Mindanao, Philippines. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2021 Mediation and conflict resolution course
With the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation (FES) in Afghanistan, we offer a four-month online programme for 30 next-generation Afghan young leaders. -
Past Project: 2024 Memory and history as a basis of social reconciliation of Armenians and Azerbaijanis
We use individual biographical narratives to stimulate reflection and discussion in the respective societies. -
Past Project: 2018 - 2021 Memory and history for social conciliation in Bosnia
Through the discussion of individual memories about the conflict escalation we are laying the ground for a deep and empathetic conciliation process between the different ethnic sections within Bosnia. -

Through networking and mentoring, the Berghof Foundation seeks to empower the upcoming leaders of non-governmental organisations working for peace and dialogue. -

The project examines the intersection of peacemaking – with a focus on mediation – and constitution making, and aims to strengthen cooperation between the two fields. -
Past Project: 2013 - 2020 Peace Counts
Peace Counts is a unique combination of peace education and peace journalism. It began as an initiative of journalists who travelled to 30+ conflict regions to report about individuals making peace. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2021 Peace education meets religion
This project aims to strengthen the peace education skills and competencies of religious or religiously motivated multipliers working in the formal and non-formal education sector. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2023 Promoting reconciliation in Hirshabelle State, Somalia
The project focuses on supporting and empowering local peacebuilders in their efforts to address conflict and support reconciliation in Hirshabelle State. -
Past Project: 2015 - 2020 Regional peacebuilding in Colombia
Our work accompanied Colombian actors in developing and implementing conflict transformation and peace efforts on different levels, and shares the lessons learnt in order to improve national policies. -
Past Project: 2019 - 2020 Rural policing in southern Mexico
This project explores alternative forms of security provision in rural areas of southern Mexico that emerged as responses to criminal violence and the failure of the state to defend its citizens. -
Past Project: 2017 - 2020 Safety nets against Sunni-Shia polarisation in Lebanon
This project aims to create forums and to establish safety nets which contribute to bridging divides and addressing mutual concerns and fears. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2021 Security doctrines in a changing world
The project aims to foster global South-North exchange and to better reflect global South perspectives in International Relations theory, by providing insights into modes of South-South cooperation. -

The project seeks to support Infrastructures for Peace (I4P) and raise awareness on the nexus between climate change and conflict. -
Past Project: 2019 - 2020 Somalia: Supporting the stabilisation of Galmudug State
The project seeks to support the stabilisation of Galmudug through a multi-track approach to dialogue, which supports the cohesion of Galmudug society. -
Past Project: 2021 - 2022 StArt Peace Education!
The project compiles the latest findings on peace education in German-speaking countries in a state-of-the-art report and podcast and formulates recommendations for policy and educational practice. -
Past Project: 2019 - 2022 Strengthening the Ethiopian transition and reform process
The project supports a multipartial group of influential Ethiopian insiders from across the political and civic spectrum in their efforts to foster inclusive dialogue on multiple tracks in Ethiopia. -
Past Project: 2022 - 2023 Strengthening women’s engagement in peace and security politics in Lebanon
The Berghof Foundation and UN Women are organising a two-track dialogue process for women holding high-level positions in traditional political parties and emerging political movements. -
Past Project: 2024 Supporting climate-focused local-level dialogues in Iraq
Building on climate-focused mediation and peacebuilding, the project aims to support local-level dialogue to address climate security risks in Iraq. -

Local religious leaders and scholars play an active role in addressing root causes of radicalisation, promoting religious tolerance, and supporting peaceful coexistence on a local and national level. -

Working closely with the GIZ and national partners, the project aims to strengthen Local Peace Committees in Benishangul-Gumuz in Ethiopia. -

The project supports a diverse group of independent Syrians in developing conflict resolution options and provides space for dialogue with external powers. -
Past Project: 2020 - 2021 Supporting social media influencers in Lebanon
This project supports social media influencers to de-escalate social and political tensions and to engage in a dialogue to develop options for a new national vision in Lebanon. -
Past Project: 2021 - 2022 Trust-building in Security and Rule of Law partnerships
With this research project, we aim to contribute to the development of a research agenda on the state of trust and trust-building in SRoL partnerships. -
Past Project: 2022 - 2022 Youth in dialogue about climate change and sustainable peace
We are creating virtual dialogue spaces and learning material for young people from Baden-Württemberg and from various world regions, to discuss strategies and visions for dealing with climate change.
