Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025

Watch the recording of our event to hear the stories of women from Nigeria, Syria, and Zimbabwe who are leading peacebuilding efforts in their communities.
Around the world, women are involved in peacebuilding efforts, helping their communities resolve conflicts. Yet their achievements are often not recognised and their role is underestimated.
To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day and to highlight the relentless efforts of these women, peacebuilders from Nigeria, Syria, and Zimbabwe joined us for an online panel discussion to share their experiences in creating positive change in their communities. They highlighted the unique entry points they have as women and reflect on gender dynamics that leverage and hinder the resolution of conflicts.
This event explored how women can be better supported in peacebuilding work and how we can ensure their efforts lead to lasting effects. Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security, we reflected on key lessons from the extraordinary work of these women. We also discussed the steps needed to ensure women’s participation in formal peace processes becomes self-evident and widely accepted.
