Watch the recording of our event with UNESCO highlighting the transformative power of dialogue to celebrate International Day of Peace 2024.

Conflicts around the world are escalating at an alarming rate. With 89 percent of global conflicts happening in countries lacking capacity for intercultural dialogue, dialogue stands as one of the most powerful tools for peace. Dialogue initiatives can foster trust and mutual understanding, which is a crucial step in addressing or even preventing violent conflict. To mark International Day of Peace, the Berghof Foundation and UNESCO hosted a joint event highlighting the transformative role of dialogue in cultivating a culture of peace.

This one-hour event brought together experts who shared direct insights and lessons learned from implementing dialogue initiatives in a number of countries in Asia and Africa. They also discussed how these approaches can be tailored to different cultural, social, and political contexts. By emphasising the importance of inclusive, locally driven dialogue initiatives, the discussion highlighted how these efforts can lead to sustainable solutions that support long-term peacebuilding and resilience.
