In memoriam: Gypsy Queen Buisan Sumampao

We mourn with great sadness the passing of Gypsy Queen Buisan Sumampao.

We mourn with great sadness the passing of Gypsy Queen Buisan Sumampao, whose premature death on 27 April 2020 has left her family, friends and colleagues in shock. Gypsy was a freelance photographer in Mindanao, specializing in portrait photography, landscape and events. She was an active member of Musafir Films Cotabato and passionate about photography, film, and public relations.

We had the honour to work with her as a researcher for Team Mindanao for the project “From Female Combatants to Post-War Democratic Leaders”. Her creativity and passion as a filmmaker and photographer were an inspiration for many other young people in Mindanao and for her colleagues. She had been awarded a Best Photography award for three years and was the former news editor of instinct, a student publication. Gypsy held a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and was currently completing her Masters Degree. She will be sorely missed.
