Watch the video of our event that shed light on the manifold crises Lebanon is facing.

The situation in Lebanon has drastically deteriorated in the past few years. The majority of the population lives in poverty, the health care sector is crumbling, and public service provision is lacking. The national currency has lost more than 95 per cent of its value since 2019, people have lost their savings and the country is experiencing a massive exodus of skilled workers. Despite this dramatic humanitarian and economic situation, the country is in the midst of a political stalemate with accusations of corruption and a general sense of impunity rife.

The panel discussion focused on what is needed to help the country overcome the current situation in the short-, medium-, and long-term. We discussed necessary next steps to overcome the crises, who should be involved, and what options are available for moving forward. The event examined the position of the state amid the catastrophic situation in the country, and also looked at the role of emerging political movements and the actions they have undertaken in an attempt to alleviate the impact of the crises on the population. Additionally, the potential role of the international community was touched on.

This event was part of the #IntoFocus campaign which aimed to shed light on the political, economic, and humanitarian crises in Lebanon.
