2-month extension of truce in Yemen and meeting with conflict parties in Montreux

Together with our partner PDF Yemen we held a dialogue meeting with representatives of all Yemeni conflict parties to discuss strengthening the current truce.

The two-month truce announced by the UN’s Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) in early April, continues to hold and led to a significant reduction in fighting and civilian casualties. It was extended until beginning of August earlier this month and we hope all warring parties continue to work towards solutions that offer relief to the Yemeni people.

Together with the Political Development Forum Yemen we held an informal dialogue meeting with representatives of all Yemeni conflict parties in Montreux, Switzerland from 13 to 15 June. Discussions focused on options for strengthening and extending the current truce and the required steps to reach agreement on identified priorities.

In addition, participants discussed interim mechanisms to restore services and state functions. The discussions were constructive and identified possibilities for advancing the peace process. Moreover, they highlighted disagreements and challenges to stabilising the truce as well as obstacles to the peace process.

The meeting was made possible by the political and financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office, the logistical support of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the input of the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen (OSESGY) and the Swedish Special Envoy for Yemen, who all attended the meeting as observers.
