A new podcast by our Global Learning Hub for Transitional Justice and Reconciliation sheds light on the difficult process of dealing with legacies of violence.

After wars, authoritarian rule or systemic human rights violations, societies are faced with deep challenges when they attempt to address their past: What strategies can survivors use to overcome being silenced and stigmatised? How do young people get engaged in dealing with the past? How can the root causes of gender discrimination be addressed? And what can be done to prevent a recurrence of violence in the future?

To help answer these questions, our Global Learning Hub for Transitional Justice and Reconciliation launched “Voices for Transitional Justice”, a four-episode podcast special about the difficult process of dealing with legacies of violence.

Listen to "Voices for Transitional Justice" on Spreaker.

In it, experts from Burundi, Croatia, Georgia, Germany, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, and South Africa, discuss their efforts in coming to terms with the past. Based on their unique experiences, they share how victims can find ways to heal and how societies can become more just and peaceful.

Each episode addresses a contemporary issue in transitional justice: the role of victims, the power of youth, feminist perspectives, and guarantees of non-recurrence.
