Each year the International Day of Peace is celebrated all over the world on 21 September.


 

Each year the International Day of Peace is celebrated all over the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared this holiday to commemorate and strengthen “the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” Peace Day provides the opportunity for all of us to commit to peace above all differences on a globally shared date.

This year the theme is “Climate Action for Peace”. The United Nations’ message is clear: The climate crisis is a threat to stability and security.

To mark the day, we posed the question “why is peace important?” to our staff and partners in Berlin and abroad. Here are some of their responses:
