A regional overview
We support inclusive dialogue and transitions that allow peaceful engagement in politics.
The Berghof Foundation carries out a range of activities in Asia, from supporting inclusive dialogue toward peaceful settlements of conflicts, to research on combatants' experiences and support in their transitions toward peaceful political engagement.
Current projects
- Afghanistan: Fostering peace negotiations
The overall goal of Berghof’s work in this region is to support Afghan-driven efforts to resolve the protracted conflict and to restore resilient and sustainable peace.
Past projects
- From female combatants to post-war democratic leaders
Using filmmaking as an accessible and evocative research method, female ex-combatants document how they experience reintegration, post-war development and leadership. - Incremental inclusivity in peace process design
This project analyses the incremental inclusion of non-state armed groups and societal actors during different stages of a peace process. - Intergenerational dialogues on fighting for justice and peace
Through participatory research and training, this project fosters intergenerational dialogue between youth and former combatants on peacebuilding and justice in Mindanao, Philippines. - Peace Counts
Peace Counts is a unique combination of peace education and peace journalism. It began as an initiative of journalists who travelled to 30+ conflict regions to report about individuals making peace. - Security doctrines in a changing world
The project aims to foster global South-North exchange and to better reflect global South perspectives in International Relations theory, by providing insights into modes of South-South cooperation. - Thailand: Public consultations for peace in Southern Thailand
The project contributes to the peace process between the Thai government and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) by supporting locally-led consultations on the conflict, complementing formal dialogue. - The role of armed and political movements in the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325
Through participatory action research in Myanmar, the project generates knowledge on how armed and political actors advance women’s protection and participation in territories under their control. - Women mediators in peaceful protest movements
We support female insider mediators in peaceful protest movements to enhance their conflict resolution capacities.
