The role of women in peacebuilding in Colombia

A film screening and conversation

Join us on 16 April for a film screening and panel discussion. A cooperation with the Colombian Embassy in Berlin and the Swedish Embassy in Berlin.

Colombia’s peace process and the role women played in it are an inspiration to many countries in conflict around the world. Women had diverse roles in making and building peace and in seeking truth about the violent past.

45 women from across Colombia tell their stories in the documentary When the waters flow as One. This 85-minute film, which UN Women, the Embassy of Sweden in Colombia and the Colombian Truth Commission jointly developed, illustrates the importance of memory and truth in achieving sustainable peace.

The film screening will take place following opening remarks by H.E. Veronika Wand-Danielsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Germany, and H.E. Yadir Salazar Mejía, Ambassador of Colombia to Germany. A panel discussion will be held after the film screening and will focus on the role of women in the Colombian peace process, their challenges and accomplishments. Together with the panellists, we will reflect on the lessons learnt from the Colombian experience that can inspire other peace and truth-seeking processes. We will also discuss the role of the international community in endorsing these processes and supporting women in peacebuilding.

The panel discussion will be followed by refreshments and a networking opportunity.

This event will be held ahead of The Berlin Moot, a conference pioneering new approaches to peace.
