Before joining the Berghof Foundation, Samuel received his juris doctor from Columbia Law School, where his studies focused on international human rights, comparative constitutional law, mediation and transitional justice. He was awarded the Alfred S. Forsyth Prize for achievement in and commitment to environmental law, and the David M. Berger Memorial Prize for commitment to international law and world peace. During his time at Columbia, he collaborated on a forthcoming report with the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies arguing for the incorporation of environmental and climate issues into a future transitional justice process in Yemen.
