Kasahun Dender Melese joined the Berghof Foundation in February 2020 as Project Coordinator and is currently working on the project “Supporting Multi-Track Dialogue in Ethiopia” as Senior Programme Coordinator. Prior to this, Kasahun served for four years as Deputy Executive Director of the Centre for Dialogue, Research and Cooperation (CDRC), an Ethiopian-based public-policy think tank focusing on issues of democratic governance and nation building, peace & security and regional integration in the Horn of Africa region and Africa in general.
Previously, he served the Ethiopian public sector for 20 years in different capacities including four years as the Ambassador of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation, six years as Deputy Minister of the National Defence Forces of Ethiopia, and ten years as project manager and institutional development expert at the Ministry of Water Resources of Ethiopia. Kasahun has been actively engaged in promoting conflict resolution and peacebuilding measures in the Horn of Africa, mainly in the formulation of the Eastern Africa Standby Force and conflict early warning system in the IGAD region. Kasahun holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from London South Bank University.

Kasahun Dender Melese ist seit Februar 2020 als Projektkoordinator bei der Berghof Foundation tätig. Derzeit arbeitet er als leitender Programmkoordinator an dem Projekt "Supporting Multi-Track Dialogue in Ethiopia". Zuvor war er vier Jahre als stellvertretender Geschäftsführer des Centre for Dialogue, Research and Cooperation (CDRC) tätig. Das CDRC ist ein äthiopischer Public Policy Think Tank mit Schwerpunkten in demokratischer Regierungsführung, staatlichem und nationalem Aufbau, Frieden und Sicherheit und der regionalen Integration im Horn von Afrika und in Afrika generell. Davor war er 20 Jahre in verschiedenen Ämtern im äthiopischen öffentlichen Dienst tätig, unter anderem vier Jahre als Botschafter von Äthiopien in der Russischen Föderation, sechs Jahre als stellvertretender Minister der nationalen Streitkräfte und zehn Jahre als Projektmanager und Experte für institutionelle Entwicklung im Ministerium für Wasserresourcen in Äthiopien. Er ist aktiv in die Förderung von Konfliktbeilegung und friedensfördernden Maßnahmen im Horn von Afrika involviert, insbesondere in die Erarbeitung der ostafrikanischen „Standby Force“ und des Konflikt-Frühwarnsystems in der IGAD-Region. Mr. Kasahun Dender Melese besitzt einen Master-Abschluss in Betriebswirtschaftslehre von der London South Bank University.
