Kasahun Dender Melese joined the Berghof Foundation in February 2020 as Project Coordinator and is currently working on the project “Supporting Multi-Track Dialogue in Ethiopia” as Senior Programme Coordinator. Prior to this, Kasahun served for four years as Deputy Executive Director of the Centre for Dialogue, Research and Cooperation (CDRC), an Ethiopian-based public-policy think tank focusing on issues of democratic governance and nation building, peace & security and regional integration in the Horn of Africa region and Africa in general.

Previously, he served the Ethiopian public sector for 20 years in different capacities including four years as the Ambassador of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation, six years as Deputy Minister of the National Defence Forces of Ethiopia, and ten years as project manager and institutional development expert at the Ministry of Water Resources of Ethiopia. Kasahun has been actively engaged in promoting conflict resolution and peacebuilding measures in the Horn of Africa, mainly in the formulation of the Eastern Africa Standby Force and conflict early warning system in the IGAD region. Kasahun holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from London South Bank University.
